Zoning Board Approves Hulshof Garage Variance

Archbold Board of Zoning Appeals recently approved a garage variance for Bill Hulshof, 703 West Holland St. The board unanimously approved the request during the BZA meeting, Thursday, April 10.

Hulshof plans a two-vehicle garage addition to his home. His existing garage is being incorporated into his home during a remodeling project.

Susie Stamm, a neighbor, asked how far the new garage will extend. She was concerned about it blocking the corner visibility at Christine Drive.

Tim Smith, board member, said he visited the intersection and did not think the new garage will block the vision of drivers. He also said a house across the street from Hulshof extends west almost as far as the planned addition.

Voting for the request were Smith, Rich Winzeler, Brad Roth, and Tim Ziegler. Phil Grieser was absent.

A copy of a proposed wind turbine ordinance for the village was given to BZA members during their meeting. Dennis Howell, village administrator, asked the board to read the ordinance and make comments on it at a future meeting.

BZA meets Thursday, April 24 to review a variance request from Grant Bernath for an unattached garage at 203 W. Mechanic St. The 8 p.m. meeting is in the village council room, municipal building, 300 N. Defiance St.
