Virginia “Ginny” Zedaker is the November Resident of the Month at Fairlawn Haven Retirement Community.
Born Dec. 7, 1917, to Ed and Florence (Kuhn) Nickerson, she had two sisters, Velmie and Irene, and one brother, Wayne.
Virginia grew up near Fayette and went to a country school. She completed eighth grade and began working in a factory. Over the years she worked at General Motors, 50 Corporation and Aro.
In her early 30s she met Bob Zedaker. They married on April 24, 1954, near Hamilton Lake, Ind.
Bob liked to tell the story of how he drove past Ginny’s house while she was doing yard work and thought she was the prettiest girl he had ever seen.
They lived near Stryker and attended the United Methodist Church in Stryker. They adopted two children, Larry and Carla, both deceased.
The family spent many summers at Hamilton Lake, where they had a cottage. When Bob and Virginia were older, they spent most winters in Florida.
Ginny loved being a mom and grandmother, cooking, sewing and entertaining friends. Ginny spent many years caring for family members.
Bob died within the past year. Ginny has lived at Fairlawn since 2008.
