Following Harry Murtiff’s resignation as Fulton County coroner, the Fulton County Republican Party will name Rick Yoder, an Archbold physician, as the acting coroner, Tuesday, July 10.
Murtiff’s resignation takes effect at midnight, Sunday, July 29.
While the county commissioners have already appointed Yoder as interim coroner, state law requires the political party that the previous coroner was affi liated with, appoint the replacement.
“We will appoint Dr. Yoder to the position,” said Sandra Barber, Fulton County Republican Party chairman.
“That’s mandated by law: Ohio Revised Code 305.02.”
The law requires the committee to meet no sooner than five days and no later than 45 days after the resignation of the previous office holder to name a replacement.
Yoder is also the Republican Party nominee for coroner in the November 2012 election.–Frank Bumb
