William Thieroff

William O. Thieroff, 76, of Ridgeville Corners, died at 6:31 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Toledo Hospital.

He was born in Defiance on Aug. 11, 1932 to Orville and Matilda (Meyer) Thieroff. Bill was baptized on Sept. 11, 1932, at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance. He was confirmed on May 19, 1947 by Rev. Hebestreit at St. John Lutheran Church, Defiance.

He enlisted in the US Air Force on Aug. 11, 1951 and served four years, one of which was in Korea.

He married Margaret (Otte) on Nov. 15, 1953. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Corners, where he formerly served as president, elder and treasurer. He served on the Ohio District LCMS Board of Directors for 12 years, was past president of Northwest Ohio Life Underwriters, and former editor of the Ridgeville Township News.

He previously served on the Ridgeville Township Zoning Board and was a past member of the Defiance and Ridgeville Fire Departments.

Bill enjoyed 25 years of fishing in Canada with his friends. It was a trip he looked forward to every year.

He formerly worked at Johns Manville, Norfolk & Western Railroad, and Aid Association for Lutherans, prior to his retirement in 1991. After his retirement he worked part time at Meyer Farm Equipment in Ridgeville Corners.

Bill was a wonderful husband and father and is survived by his wife, Margaret, and three daughters, Cathy (Tony) Aschemeier, Defiance, Cindy (Don) Lee, Medford, NJ, and Cheryl (Terry) Bostelman, Ridgeville Corners.

He was the proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Orville & Matilda; daughters, Carol (Arlen) Cohrs and Christine Thieroff; and a brother, Robert Thieroff.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ridgeville Corners. Interment followed at the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the Ridgeville American Legion.

Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Ridgeville Fire Dept., or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
