Waterline Added To Ball Diamond Project

An additional water supply line will be added to the scope of work for the new baseball diamond in Memorial Park.

Dexter Krueger, an Archbold Park Board member and assistant village engineer, told park board members during their Wednesday, June 20 meeting, that originally, one waterline was to supply the existing irrigation system for the original diamonds and the new diamond, plus three more diamonds in the future.

Krueger said since the bid for the initial phase of diamond construction came in under budget, it makes sense to add the new line.

Plus, he said, the $80,000 savings from the lower-thanexpected bid will about cover the cost of the new line.

The new line will provide an additional loop in water supply lines, he said.

Kevin Morton, a member of both Archbold Village Council and the park board, suggested that since the village would benefit from the looped supply line, that council should pay for part of the cost of the new line out of the village budget.

Vaughn Bentz, a councilman and park board member, said, “Why not cost share with the village?”

Jennifer Kidder, director of Archbold Parks & Recreation, said the money left over from the lower bid had originally been earmarked for fencing around the diamond.

The fencing portion was deleted to cover the waterline.

The next meeting is Wednesday, Aug. 8, 12 noon, in the council chambers.
