The Archbold Area School Board named Aaron Rex, principal of Wapakoneta High School, to become the new Archbold school district superintendent.

The board voted on its selection at its Monday night, Jan. 7 meeting. The board spent about 30 minutes in executive session before returning and passing measures to bring Rex on board.

Rex said he is originally from the Lima-Wapakoneta area. He is not direct related to the Rex families in Archbold, including Dave Rex,  former Archbold Middle School principal.

“I am excited about getting started in serving the district of Archbold Area Schools,” Rex said in a press release.

His first day on the job is Monday, Feb. 4, “and I intend to hit the ground running,” he said.

“Getting to work with the board of education, faculty, staff, parents, and community members to continue to set the bar high for our students is my goal.  We want to continue to push for excellence and provide a safe and caring environment where our students and staff love to come to school each day.

“Archbold will continue to be a leader in providing an excellent education, and from what I already know about this community, I am looking forward to not only working here, but living in Ohio’s best hometown.”

“Mr. Rex is a highly motivated individual who strives for educational excellence,” the school board said in a press release. “The Board of Education looks forward to the addition of Mr. Rex to the Archbold Area School team.”

Jon Lugbill, school board president, said Rex will be paid $101,000 per year. He has been signed to a three-year contract.-Posted 1.7, 8 pm
