Walter E. Stamm




Walter E. Stamm, age 88 years, of Archbold, passed away early Friday morning, Nov. 21, 2008, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.

He was born Dec. 10, 1919, near Archbold, the son of Fred and Huldah (Aeschliman) Stamm.

He married Martha Eicher on April 13, 1941, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 5, 2008.

A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he was a farmer. He, with his brother, owned and operated Stamm Brothers Excavating, and also worked at the former Riegsecker Bros., and drove truck for Herb Grieser Trucking.

He served on the Board of Cherry Street Mission in Toledo, and the original Board of WPOS. He was a member of the Central Mennonite Church, where he sang in the men’s chorus.

He is survived by three sons, Edward (Karen) Stamm of Archbold, Roger (Jeannine) Stamm of Stryker, and Dale (Leslie) Stamm of West Unity; two daughters, Pat (Bill) Bondi of Secor, Ill., and Karen (Ross) Wyse of Archbold; 19 grandchildren; and 27 greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson; one brother, Mahlon Stamm; and two sisters, Dora (McCalla) Mc- Kie and Frieda Rupp.

Memorial services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Central Mennonite Church with Pastors Jeffrey Smith, Wanda Stopher, Bill Holsopple, and Charles Gautsche officiating. Interment preceded at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Pettisville Cemetery.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold was entrusted with the arrangements.
