Walter A. Gisel
Walter A. Gisel, age 89 years, of Archbold, passed away Thursday night, June 26, 2008, at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center near Defiance.
He was born July 5, 1918, at rural Wauseon, a son of Albert and Amanda (Lehman) Gisel. He married Bernice Rupp on Nov. 10, 1940, and she preceded him in death on July 5, 1984. He then married Catherine "Kay" (Roger) Collamore on Feb. 18, 1989.
A lifelong resident of the Wauseon/Archbold area, he farmed and worked at the former Dinner Bell Foods in Archbold for over 20 years. Since retirement he worked at Sauder Village for 21 years.
He was a member of the Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine "Kay"; four children, Louona (Roger) Roth of Upland, Ind., Donna (Lynn) Becker of Woodburn, Ind., Brenda (Robert) McDonell of Wheaton, Ill., and Lowell (Sheila) Gisel of Midland, Mich.; two stepchildren, Linda (Robert) Wallace and Jerry (Susan) Collamore, both of Columbus; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one granddaughter; five brothers, Lloyd Gisel, Chester Gisel, Donald Gisel, Vern Gisel, and Ralph "Bud" Gisel; and two sisters, Mabel Gisel and Opal Gisel.
Memorial services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church with Pastors Stuart Rex and Brad Bame officiating. Interment will precede at 10 a.m. Monday in the Pettisville Cemetery.
Friends may call at Short Funeral Home in Archbold from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday.
The family suggests that memorials be given to the church or Miracle Camp.
