Waldvogel Gets 300th Career Win

Jason Waldvogel, Pettisville head girls basketball coach, reached the 300-career victory mark when the Blackbirds defeated Hilltop 52-9, Thursday, Feb. 8, in a Buckeye Border Conference matchup at Hilltop.

In his 22nd year at the helm of the program, Waldvogel has won seven Buckeye Border Conference titles, 12 sectional tournament titles, and three district titles.

In non-league action, Hicksville defeated the Birds 52-44, Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Hicksville.

Pettisville is 11-9, 9-3 BBC.

Hicksville 52, PHS 44

The Aces (15-3) led 13-8 after one, 23-16 at the half, and 36-30 after three on their way to an eight-point victory.

“We played a really solid game against a good team,” said Waldvogel. “Our effort was there.

“Hicksville hit free throws in the fourth quarter. That was the difference in the game.”

The aces were 17-26 at the foul line while PHS was 10- 15.

The Birds hit 11 two-point field goals and four threepointers for 34 points from the field, while Hicksville hit 10 deuces and five treys for 35 points from the field.

Morgan Leppelmeier led all scorers with 32 points.

Addison Bergman led the Aces, with 17 points, while Katelyn Bergman scored 11.

PHS 52, Hilltop 9

The Birds led 31-0 at the half on their way to the BBC victory over the Cadets (0- 20, 0-11 BBC).

“It was a great team effort tonight,” said Waldvogel after garnering his milestone victory.

“I thought every single player on the team stepped their game up and played well together.”

Nine Blackbirds got in the scorebook, led by Mikayla Graber and Elizabeth Beck with nine points each.

Pettisville won the rebounding battle 40-22, but committed 20 turnovers to nine for Hilltop.
