Vernon L. Aschliman

Vernon L. Aschliman, age 94 years, of Archbold, passed away early Thursday morning, Aug. 12, 2010, at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

He was born Jan. 28, 1916, near Archbold, in Henry County, the son of Harvey and Pearl (Schmucker) Aschliman. He married Alice Stuckey on Dec. 30, 1939, and she preceded him in death on May 10, 2008.

He lived on a farm in Franklin Township for 39 years before moving to Archbold in 1992, and was a farmer.

He was a charter member of the Tedrow Mennonite Church.

He is survived by six children, Reuben (Beverly) Aschliman of Fort Collins, Colo., Stephen (Jan) Aschliman of Nashville, Tenn., Mary Ann (Gary) Eastty of Ridgefield, Wash., Marlene (Dave) Bell of Columbia City, Ind., Joyce Aschliman of Archbold, and Calvin (Annie) Aschliman of Indianapolis, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ralph (Betty) Aschliman of Archbold; and one sister, Kathryn Aschliman of Goshen, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, a daughter, Carolyn Aschliman; a grandson; and a brother Kenneth Aschliman.

Memorial services were held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Fairlawn Chapel with Ron Kauffman and Ryan Nafziger officiating. Interment preceded at 9:30 a.m. in the Pettisville Cemetery.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold was entrusted with the arrangements.
