Verden L. Beck

Verden L. Beck, age 89 years, of Archbold, passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2007 at the University of Toledo Medical Center, where he was a patient six days. He had resided at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold since April 2005.

He was born Sept. 1, 1918, near Archbold, a son of Henry and Emma (Nofziger) Beck, and married Letha Short on Nov. 21, 1940.

A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he was an employee at Sauder Woodworking Co. in Archbold for 50 years, and served many years as plant supervisor before retiring in 1988. Following his retirement, he was a volunteer overseeing maintenance/construction at Little Eden Camp at Onekama, Mich., for five years. He served in Civilian Public Service during World War II, and was a member of the Central Mennonite Church near Archbold.

He is survived by his wife, Letha; three sons, E. Dean (Jeanette) Beck, Daryl (Bonnie) Beck, and Neal (Julia) Beck, all of Archbold; one daughter, Joyce Klingelsmith of Archbold; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Beck of Wauseon; and one sister, Bernice (Archie) Kauffman of Archbold.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Earl Beck; five sisters, Florence Miller, Elnora Rupp, Ella Beck, Ilva Nofziger, and Lucille Rychener.

Memorial services were yesterday, Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at the Central Mennonite Church with Pastors Jeffrey Smith, Wanda Stopher, and Charles Gautsche officiating. Interment preceded in the Pettisville Cemetery.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold was in charge of the arrangements.

The family suggests that memorials be given to Central Church Building Fund or Fairlawn Haven.
