Aaron and Chad Baus announced last week they have purchased CAR 1, a used-car dealership based in Archbold.
They are the fourth generation to operate the business, which traces its roots back to 1924.
The company was started by Clarence and John Nofzinger as a wrecking business on East Mechanic Street. They began selling Oakland automobiles in 1926.
Sons-in-law Ed Baus and Dale D. Short purchased the company in the 1950s. Baus and his wife Leanna bought the business in 1967, when Short died.
Larry and Eileen Baus, Ed’s son and daughter-inlaw, bought the company in 1986. They operated it as a Pontiac and GMC truck dealership until 1998, when the company name and assets were sold.
In March 1999, Larry and his son, Aaron, opened a new business known as CAR 1. Larry’s other son, Chad, joined the firm in 2001.
In a press release, Aaron and Chad said their father Larry, and grandfather, Ed, will continue to work in the company.
