Unemployment Up In Fulton, Defiance & Henry Counties





 

 

The Ohio Department of Job & Family Services estimated that unemployment increased by one-tenth of one percent in Fulton County in February.

Unemployment was 6.1% in January and 6.2% in February. It was 4.6% in December 2016.

Only 11 counties had unemployment increases. Defiance and Henry counties rates jumped– Defiance County by one-half of one percentage point (.5).

Unemployment in Williams County remained unchanged at 5.1%, the lowest in the four counties. It was the only county in the state that did not have a change between January and February.

Fulton County was in a four-way tie for 43rd-highest unemployment in Ohio, with Ross, Portage and Marion counties.

During February, there were 1,400 unemployed workers in Fulton County. When combined with 21,600 who were working, the county total labor force is 23,000.

High, Low

The highest rate was in Monroe County, in southeastern Ohio, at 11.8%. Only one other county– Meigs, also in southeastern Ohio– had double-digit unemployment at 10.2%.

Mercer County, in westcentral Ohio, had the lowest, at 3.7%. Delaware County in central Ohio was the only other county with unemployment below 4%, at 3.8%.

State, Nation

All county unemployment data is not seasonally adjusted. Comparable rates for the state of Ohio and nation were 5.9% and 4.9%, respectively.

When seasonal adjustments are applied, the Ohio rate becomes 4.7%, while the national rate is 4.9%.

During February, there were 340,000 people in the state out of a job. There were more than 5.3 million working, for a total Ohio labor force of more than 5.7 million.
