Tyler Priest Transferred To Toledo Children’s Hospital

Tyler Priest, 13, formerly of Archbold, was transferred to Toledo Children’s Hospital, Monday, Aug. 4.

He is in room 1508.

He has been at Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne, Ind., since July 6, when he was injured after attempting to climb onto a moving tractor. He slipped and fell, and was run over.

Tyler is the son of Bob Priest and Kara Priest, formerly of Archbold. Bob is a former Archbold High School teacher and football coach; he is now head football coach at Van Wert High School.

An Internet web log, or blog, located at tylerpriest8.blogspot. com, states that Tyler is considered stable from a medical standpoint, which means he has no life-threatening issues. He was in critical condition when he was taken to Parkview, but improved enough to be moved to the pediatric floor on Wednesday, July 30.

He remains in a coma, but follows simple commands. The blog stated the next step in his recovery is to try to wake him up and get him stronger, which is why they chose Toledo Children’s Hospital, a certified pediatric rehabilitation center.

The blog states Tyler continues to breathe on his own, after having a chest tube removed (a chest tube helps keep a lung inflated; one of his lungs had collapsed.) A case of pneumonia also has been resolved. They are hoping his brain stem will continue to heal.

He has physical therapy and occupational therapy daily.

The blog also stated that on Sunday, Aug. 3, he opened his eye for a special item and people over the weekend. Lyndsy Ruffer, AHS ’04, stopped by with an Ohio State University hat autographed by Jim Tressel, OSU football coach.

“This definitely was exciting for Ty; he opened his eye for that one for sure!” said the blog.
