Truck Strikes Traffic Signal Pole Monday

A semi truck, driven by Howard Daniel Cameron, 57, Springfield, Mo., struck the traffic signal pole on the southwest corner of the intersection of Stryker Street and North Defiance Street about 9:30 pm, Monday, May 2.

The Archbold Police Report states Cameron, driving a truck owned by USA Truck, Inc., Burns Harbor, Ind., was traveling east on Stryker Street, and attempted to turn right to go south on North Defiance Street.

The trailer stuck the signal pole, which was pushed into the awning at Rupp Furniture. A light fixture in the awning was knocked loose.

Cameron was cited for making an improper turn.

Semis have had difficulty negotiating the intersection, although village officials proved it can be done by having a semi drive though the intersection.

Earlier this year, a bellshaped bollard placed at the intersection was ripped from the ground by a semi. Another semi struck the Rupp Furniture awning, ripping part of it off the building.
