When a semi truck struck the bollard on the southwest corner of the North Defiance Street at Stryker Street, it blew two tires, which damaged a window and light at the Rupp Furniture building.
The Archbold police report on the Monday, Dec. 15, mishap states that at about 12:25 pm, Joseph P. Whalen, 47, Montgomery, Ala., was driving the semi, owned by USA Truck, Inc., Chesteron, Ind., east on Stryker Street.
As Whalen attempted to turn right (south) on North Defiance Street, the tractor’s right rear dual wheels struck the bollards. Both rims were damaged.
The police report states the damage was done to the window, located on the north side of the building, by either the rush of high-pressure air out of the tires, or something being thrown from the tires.
Whalen was cited for violating rules for turning at intersections.
