Archbold, OH

Tree Board Meeting Is Set For Thursday

Members of the Archbold Street Tree Committee, also known as the Tree Board, meet tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 18, to discuss this year’s fall planting schedule.

Dennis Howell, Archbold village administrator, said the village will replant 22 trees that died during the summer.

“That’s probably more than we would typically see, due to the extremely dry weather,” he said.

The village had a regular watering program in place, but the dry weather still took its toll, he said.

Trees that died along North Defiance Street were under a two-year guarantee as a part of the 2005 North Defiance Street reconstruction program. That guarantee has since expired, Howell said.

The cost of replanting the other trees will be born by the village, he said.

The village of Archbold has been honored with the National Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA award every year since 1983. To qualify, the village must set aside a portion of its budget for trees, have a Tree Board in place, and hold an annual Arbor Day observance.

Founded in 1936, the Friday the 13th Club- which flaunted superstition by walking under ladders, breaking mirrors, spilling salt, etc.- disbanded on Friday, Oct. 13, 2000.
