A car was struck by a train about 4:11 am, Sunday, Sept. 26 at the Co. Rd. D slant crossing, after the auto became stuck on the tracks.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol report on the incident states Daniel Fdveld, Toledo, was driving a compact car west on Co. Rd D, when the vehicle failed to negotiate the curves at the crossing, went off the left side of the roadway, and became stuck on the tracks.
Fdveld abandoned the vehicle, which was then struck by an eastbound Norfolk Southern freight train.
Archbold Rescue responded to the crash, but could not locate anyone in or near the auto; only later was it learned the auto had been abandoned.
OSHP troopers are investigating.
