Traffic Signals, Businesses Lose Power For Six Hours

Dennis Howell, Archbold Village administrator, said a failed transformer near the Archbold municipal building resulted in a power outage that knocked out downtown traffic signals, Monday, Sept. 15, beginning at about 8:55 a.m.

Power was also out at the Archbold municipal building, Plassman, Rupp, Short & Hagans law office, Christy Motor Sales, and Shalom Ministries.

Martin Schmidt, Archbold police chief, said when motorists approach an intersection where the traffic signals are not working, all drivers must stop before proceeding.

Effectively, the intersection must be treated as a four-way stop.

Village street department workers placed temporary stop signs at the North Defiance Street intersections with Holland and Stryker streets.

Power was restored, and the lights became functional, prior to 3 pm, Monday.
