Township Zoning Board Recommends Variances



The German Township Zoning Board recommended approval of two variance requests to the German Township Trustees during its Monday, Aug. 12 meeting.

Marvin and Sharon Lantz, 26911 St. Rt. 2, requested a variance from the township zoning code that requires 250 feet of road frontage to split a lot from another property.

The code also requires that the new lot created must be five acres.

Board members learned the Lantzes want to create a new lot behind their property. The frontage request would allow them to create a driveway easement to the new lot.

John Graber, a board member, noted the zoning board was not acting on the lot split request; it must be approved by Fulton County Regional Planning.

The second request was from Sam Smucker, a member of the zoning board, who plans to expand the garage at his home at 7233 Co. Rd. 23.

The project will bring the building within eight feet of a property line; the zoning code calls for a 10-foot setback.

Smucker said he had spoken to his neighbors about the project.

None of them attended the zoning meeting.

Smucker abstained from the vote on the variance request.

In addition to Smucker and Graber, Mary Rufenacht and Jim Grieser, board members, attended the meeting; Corwin Nofziger was absent.
