Both teams made 15 free throws, and Archbold made one fewer field goal than Ottawa Glandorf.
But the Blue Streak girls basketball team defeated the Titans 53-51, Tuesday, Feb. 12, because four of Archbold’s 17 field goals were three-pointers– all by Darian Oberlin.
OG made no treys.
“This was a nice win,” said Brian Ziegler, AHS head coach, whose team raised its record to 20-1.
“I’m happy for our girls finishing the regular season with a hard-fought win on the road to finish with 20 wins.
“Our regular season is complete now, and we must get ready for the tournament. We can’t look past anyone, and must keep working on ways to improve.”
The Streaks led 16-14 after one, but the score was tied at 26 at halftime. Archbold outscored the Titans 14-9 in the third for a 40-35 advantage going into the final eight minutes.
OG scored 16 points in the final period to Archbold’s 13, but ended up two points shy to drop to 14-7 on the season.
A quartet of Streaks finished in double figures. Cassidy Wyse led AHS with 14 points, while Oberlin finished with 13. Hannah Hesterman and Jesse Fidler each scored 11.
OG’s Kristen Miller led all scorers with 22.
Archbold won the rebounding battle 20-18, and committed 12 turnovers to OG’s 15.
The Streaks, seeded number one in the Division III sectional tournament at Defiance High School, play Liberty Center tonight, Wednes- day, at approximately 8 p.m.
The winner advances to the sectional final, Saturday, Feb. 23, at 8 p.m.
Sectional champions play in the district tournament at Kalida, Thursday, Feb. 28.
