Thomas Eldor Elling, 63, of Wauseon, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Regency Hospital, Sylvania.
He was born March 11, 1950, in Napoleon, to Eldor and Marcile “Sally” (Nye) Elling.
On July 1, 1972, he married Betty J. Kruse at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Ridgeville Corners.
Tom graduated in 1968 from Liberty Center High School and served his country during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army.
He was employed as a telephone technician for 40 years with CenturyLink. He was also the owner and operator of Elling Body Shop and Tom & Betty Elling Motorsports.
He was a member of VFW Post #7424, American Legion Post #265, and Trinity Lutheran Church, all of Wauseon.
Tom’s hobbies included hunting, racing and restoring cars and trucks. He especially enjoyed racing the late model series at Oakshade Raceway.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betty; mother, Marcile “Sally” Elling, Liberty Center; children, Christopher (Sherry) Elling, Napoleon, Wendy (Brad) Eitniear, Defi- ance; grandchildren, Katelyn Elling, Rieley Elling and Emelia Eitniear; sister, Virginia (Sam) Rice, Wauseon; brothers, Michael (Jacquelyn) Elling, Liberty Center, Herbert (Teresa) Elling, Liberty Center; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eldor, and brother, James Elling.
Funeral services were 11 a.m., Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastors Jen Herrmann and Keith Hunsinger officiating. Graveside services with military honors followed in Wauseon Union Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the National Drag School Project or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
