This newspaper has consistently praised the Archbold Parks & Recreation Department for programs it has developed over the years.

Jennifer Kidder, Parks & Recreation director, and her team have come up with some winners.

“Things That Go” is the latest event to add to the list.

Youngsters of all ages got a chance to see, climb on, and in some cases, play in all kinds of vehicles and equipment. There were dump trucks, semi trucks, a fire truck, streetsweeper truck, and even a garbage truck. There were tractors of different sizes, a couple of race cars, a police car, a small motorcycle (with training wheels!), some all-terrain vehicles, and a small hydraulic excavator. A helicopter ambulance also dropped by!

There were chances to honk horns and blow sirens. Children were able to climb on the lap of a crane operator and carefully move the controls to make the giant boom swing left and right. What a special treat!

People from near and far brought children to see the machines, big and small.

Special recognition goes to all of the companies, agencies, and individuals who brought their valuable equipment to Woodland Park just so children could experience them. Doing so demonstrated their community spirit.

We’re already excited to see what kinds of “Things That Go” visit next year!
