A thief used a crowbar to rob the Circle K convenience store on the northwest corner of Airport Highway and Co. Rd. 14 in Wauseon, Sunday night, Sept. 17.
A second robbery occurred about 2 1/2 hours later in Napoleon.
A press release from the Wauseon Police Department states a lone male subject entered the store about 11:35 pm, wearing a brown hooded jacket with a bandanna over his face. He brandished the crowbar.
The suspect went behind the front counter and stole cigarettes. As the clerk was walking to the counter, the suspect confronted the clerk, who ran from the store with the suspect chasing him.
The clerk ran to another business to call police; the suspect ran to the west.
Press reports indicate that at 2:09 am, Monday, Sept. 18, Napoleon police were notified of a robbery at the Napoleon Party Mart convenience store and gas station.
Reports say witnesses say a man wielding a hatchet entered the store and demanded money from the cashier.
After the cashier handed over the money, the subject fled on foot.
The subject in the Napoleon robbery is described as Caucasian male, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and 120- 125 pounds.
The two occurred less than three hours apart.
In both robberies, the subject wore a bandanna, partially obscuring his face.
One major difference is the weapon. In the Wauseon incident, the robber chose what was described as a crowbar, while in Napoleon, a hatchet was brandished.
Persons with information about the Wauseon robbery should call Wauseon police, 419-335-3821.
