Cameron Thatcher, 14, grandson of Maryann Thatcher, Archbold, represented the United States in the International Youth Diving Meet in Dresden, Germany, April 26-29.
He was selected based on his secondplace finishes in the 1- and 3-meter springboard events at the 2011 USA Junior National Championships.
Eight USA divers– four male and four female ages 14-18– qualified and traveled to Germany to compete against divers from more than 20 countries.
Thatcher placed in the top 10 in all three events he competed. He finished eighth in the 3m, tenth in the 1m, and was ninth in the 3m synchro, teaming with Christopher Law of San Antonio, Texas.
He recently won both springboard events at the Region IV National Championship qualifier in Louisville, Ky., and will compete at the Junior National Championships in Greensboro, N.C., Aug. 6-10.
Thatcher lives in Powell with his parents, Paul and Kristin, and two siblings. He begins his freshman year at Olentangy Liberty High School in August.
