Thom Ross, interim Archbold police chief, is releasing few details in the case of someone tampering with a furnace at the former Shopko building.
Officers received a report of a possible gas leak at the vacant building at 10:39 am, Wednesday, March 23.
The officer wrote in his police report, “Upon checking the building, it was found that a furnace had been tampered with. Ohio Gas Company came on scene and made the area safe.”
It is believed the tampering may have taken place sometime between Feb. 26 and the day of the report.
There was no sign of forced entry into the building.
Ross declined to answer several questions about the incident.
He did say the investigation is continuing.
