Sylvan Valiton was born 100 years ago on May 24, 1910, to Matilda Bassinger Valiton and Emil Valiton, and passed away on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
He had one sister Irene that passed away before him.
He married Clea Julliard later in life, and they didn’t have any children, but they were caregivers.
They cared for their parents, sister, Irene, and many more even until the time he entered Fairlawn.
Sylvan had a deep faith that never wavered. He shared his musical ability for many years by playing the piano and singing at evening services at Fairlawn.
He was a retired farmer and worked as an electrician for Young Spring and Wire from the time they came to Archbold in 1964 until his retirement.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles until a few years ago. Flying an airplane was on his agenda. He continued to ask what happened to his airplane. He was very diverse.
He graduated from Stryker High School and attended the Alumni until the last couple years.
He had a good mind and thoroughly enjoyed his 100th birthday party last May. He always enjoyed the Sunday night Hymn Sings at the Chapel at Fairlawn.
Surviving are cousins and friends.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., today, Wednesday, at the Fairlawn Chapel with services to follow at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Charles Gautsche officiating.
