The US House of Representatives voted to approve postponing the switch from analog to digital television from Feb. 17 to June 12.
The switch will move television broadcasts to a technically superior format, but would make older televisions sets without digital tuners obsolete.
A converter box is required to use an old television set with digital broadcasting.
Those who get their television service via cable systems or mini-disc satellite systems are not impacted by the switchover.
Bob Latta, U.S. representative for Fulton County (R-Bowling Green), voted against the delay.
"Once again, delaying the Digital Television Transition only adds confusion and additional costs to this important conversion," he said.
