An iconic Archbold restaurant, Ickey’s, will ask voters in Archbold Precinct Three to approve the sale of mixed drinks on Sundays in the March 8, 2012, primary election.
Matt Mullins, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Liquor Control, said the bar and restaurant holds a D2 permit for the sale of wine and low-proof mixed drinks, a D-2X permit for beer, and a D3 permit for spirituous liquors, which are 21% or more alcohol by volume.
Mullins said the restaurant proprietor, James “Bummer” Dominique, has applied for a D6 permit, which would allow for the sale of liquor on Sundays between 11 am and midnight.
Mullins said liquor control personnel checked the Archbold area, and found it was considered dry for Sunday liquor sales. Dominique filed a request to put the local option question before voters in the precinct where Ickey’s is located.
Because the bar-restaurant is located south of West Holland Street, it is in Archbold Precinct Three.
The boundaries of Precinct Three are roughly south of West Holland Street and west of North and South Defiance Streets, plus the south side of Miller Avenue to the village limits and east of South Defiance Street.
If voters approve the local option, it will take about 30 days for liquor control to process the new permit, Mullins said.
