Archbold Village Council approved a bid of $1,002,375 from a Michigan firm to rebuild three streets in southwest Archbold at its Monday, March 19 meeting.
E. R. Zeiler Excavating, Inc., Temperance, Mich., was the low bidder.
Dennis Howell, Archbold village administrator, said the firm has never worked in Archbold, but has done several construction projects in Toledo and surrounding communities.
Village officials checked on the firm, and found it is fully qualified.
Three streets– North Buehrer Street from West Lugbill Road to Burke Street, Schlatter Street from Lindau Street to South Defiance Street, and Burke from North Buehrer to South Defi ance Street– will be completely reconstructed.
New sidewalks will be installed, and new sanitary sewer lines built to replace old, shallow sanitary sewers.
The winning bid was $27,375, or about 2.8%, above the price estimated by the Archbold village engineer office. Village engineers had estimated the work at $975,000.
There were five other bidders:
•Lingvai Excavating, Bryan, $1,052,781, $50,406 more than the winning bid.

Howell shared an email message he received from an East Williams Street resident, requesting parking be restricted on the street.
Currently, half of the street is designated no parking.
Council referred the matter to committee.
Village officials learned all village liquor licenses are set to expire on June 1.
Under state law, village council may request a hearing on any of the permits in place. No action was taken.
Council reviewed the 2011 Archbold Community Improvement Corporation financial report, which was submitted to the state auditor office.
The next council meeting is Monday, April 2, 7 pm, in council chambers.
