Streaks Win Three, Up Record To 5-1

The Archbold girls basketball team won three straight games last week to raise its record to 5-1, 2-0 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League.

The Streaks opened the week with a 58-39 non-league victory over Rossford, Monday, Dec. 8. AHS traveled to Fairview, Tuesday, Dec. 9 and came home with a 52-34 non-league win.

AHS ended the week with a 63-42 league victory over Liberty Center, Friday, Dec. 12.

AHS 58, Rossford 39

“I thought we did a nice job coming out with a lot of intensity,” said Brian Ziegler, AHS head coach. “The first half was the difference, and we’re doing a nice job with balanced scoring.”

The Streaks jumped out to a 15-5 first-quarter lead and expanded it to 29-12 at the half.

The second half was more balanced as AHS outscored the Bulldogs by only two points, 29- 27.

Alyssa Schaub led AHS with 10 points. Kelsey Wiegand also scored 10 for Rossford, which dropped to 0-4.

The Streaks out-rebounded the Bulldogs 30-17, and were led by Devin Newman with nine.

AHS 52, Fairview 34

Once again the Streaks took control in the first half, taking a 28-13 lead into the locker room.

Archbold scored 24 points in the second half to the Apaches’ 21 for the 18-point win.

“We ran into foul trouble in a physical game,” said Ziegler. “I thought the bench came in and did a good job. They were ready when called upon.

Dani Leaser led all scorers with 13 points. Newman scored 11 and Andrea Allan scored 10.

Kayla Bostater led Fairview (1-3) with 12.

AHS out-rebounded the Apaches, 24-22. Stacy Wyse and Newman each led AHS with eight. The Streaks committed 22 turnovers to Fairview’s 33.

AHS 63, LC 42

“This was a big win for us against a very good team,” said Ziegler. “I thought our girls executed our game plan very well. Offensively, we played very unselfi shly.”

The Tigers (4-1, 1-1 NWOAL) led 14-13 after the first period, but a 15-6 second quarter gave AHS a 28-20 halftime lead.

The Streaks easily won the second half 35-22 for the 21- point victory.

AHS out-rebounded the Tigers 32-13, and were led by Wyse with 10.

Allan led the AHS scoring effort with 13 points. Graber had 11 and Wyse, 10.

LC’s Kaitlin Rohrs led all scorers with 16 points.
