“You’re dealing with high school kids, and they have their ups and downs, especially when we wrestle a tournament like we did this past weekend,” said Brian Becher, AHS head coach.

AHS went 9-1 in the Hopewell Loudon Duals, Dec 15-16.

“We wrestled some people that have inferior moves. They are wrestling guys that are barn-type wrestlers, and then when we wrestle guys that are more physical and sound technique wise, like we did tonight, the same stuff is going to get you in trouble.

“I told the guys it doesn’t really matter that we got our butts kicked. You have to work at what we are doing wrong and we have to have guys start working hard at practice.

“We have a big tournament coming up (Bobcat Duals), and if we are wrestling like this, it is going to be ugly real ugly for some guys and they are going to start not liking it,” said Becher.

“Everyone likes to win, and the only way to win is to work hard on a daily basis. The guys have to figure that out.

“It’s kind of like when you get to a certain age, you have to start liking to eat your vegetables, and we have to learn to work hard and drill, or we will never get to that next point in the season.

“We will see how the guys respond.”
