Streaks Golfers Second In Classic By The Bay

Bostelman On All-Tournament Team

Wauseon captured the Classic By The Bay golf invitational and Archbold was second, Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Maumee Bay Resort.

The Indians won the invite with a team score of 322 points. The Streaks were seven strokes back, with 329, placing second. Genoa was third, 334.

In regular-season action, Archbold beat Holgate 159-184, Tuesday, Sept. 11. The Streaks defeated Evergreen 159-180, Thursday, Sept. 13.

“We had a busy week,” said Kevin Miller, AHS coach. “We’re being more competitive, and the guys are feeling a little more confident. Everybody’s playing steadier and are more successful.

The Classic By The Bay included Division I, II, and III teams, so “we weren’t sure what to expect,” said Miller. “We hoped to be in the middle to top of the pack, and finished second.”

Tyson Bostelman was named to the all-tournament team with 77. The six individuals with the lowest scores are named alltournament.

Steven Kinsman shot an 80; Tyler Bernath, 85, and Jacob Nafziger, 87; Micah Grime 90.

Antwerp 167, AHS 168

The Streaks lost to the Archers, one of the tougher teams in the Green Meadows Conference, by one stroke on an overcast day with temperatures in the 70-degrees.

“We were in it, but let it get away,” said Miller.

Grime was low man for AHS, shooting 41. Bernath and J. Nafziger each shot 42s, and Kinsman, 43, to round out the team scoring.

AHS 159, Holgate 184

The Streaks shot their best round of the year against the Tigers.

The victory “was uplifting,” said Miller.

J. Nafziger, Bernath, and Bostelman were named match medalists; each shot 39 on a windy, overcast day with temperatures in the 60s. Kinsman had a 42 to finish the team scoring.

Holgate: Tyler Thomas 43, Ryan Franz 46, Chris Theisen 47, Dustin Bischoff 48, Ethan Matson 54, Collin Hagen 59.

AHS 159, Evergreen 180

Kinsman and J. Nafziger were named match medalists; each shot a 38 on the sunny day with temperatures in the 80s. Bostelman shot a 41, while Bernath shot a 42 to complete the team score.

Evergreen: Josh Bethel 43, Josh Schafer 44, Scott Schmidlin 46, Aaron Geisler 47, Brian Brockhurst 49, Zac Oswald 50.

NWOAL Tourney

Archbold will participate in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League tournament, Friday, Sept. 20, 9 am at Auglaize Country Club, Defiance.
