The Archbold Blue Streaks (19-4) travel to Anderson Arena at Bowling Green State University, Wednesday, March 17, to take on Plymouth (23-0) in a Division III boys basketball regional semifinal.
The game is scheduled to start at approximately 8 p.m.
It is the 14th time in school history the Streaks have made it to the Sweet 16.
The Big Red jumped from Div. IV to Div. III this year. Plymouth advanced to the D-IV regional tournament three out of the last four years, losing in the semifinal in 2009, 2008, and 2006.
Plymouth was ranked fourth in the final Associated Press D-III poll. The school won the Firelands Conference title and features Brook Turson, a 6-foot-3 senior who was named First Team All-Ohio by the AP.
Turson, a guard, averages 25.2 points per game. He needed 10 points in the district final against Ontario to hit the 2,000-career point milestone; he scored a game-high 21.
He also had nine rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks in the Big Red’s 50-37 victory.
The Big Red won by an average of 24 points in the regular season, but won their three tournament games by an average of seven points. They defeated Ashland Crestview 45-39 in their sectional final and Huron 57-55 in the district semifinal before beating Ontario by 13.
The Big Red is coached by Brad Turson, who was named Co-Coach of the Year in D-III by the AP.
Receiving second team recognition from Plymouth was Brandon McCalley, a 6-2 senior who averages 14.8 ppg. Mitch McKenzie received special mention.
In Wednesday’s first contest at 6:15 p.m., Lima Central Catholic (19-4) takes on Centerburg (20-4).
LCC defeated top-ranked Liberty-Benton 52-39 in their district semifinal, then beat Ottawa-Glandorf (18-5) 48-40 in the district final.
The Centerburg Trojans defeated Bloom-Carroll 49-46 in overtime in their district final. It was their seventh district title and first since 2002.
The BGSU regional champion will be determined Saturday, March 20, 7:30 p.m.
Five of the AP’s Top 10 Div. III teams have advanced to the Sweet 16.
The Bowling Green regional winner plays in a Final Four contest, Thursday, March 25, 10:45 a.m. in Columbus.
The Div. III state championship game is Saturday, March 27, 10:45 a.m.
