Streak Tracksters Dominate Swanton




 

 

The Archbold track teams finally opened their seasons, Thursday, April 3. Due to cold and windy weather earlier in the week, meets in Defiance and Napoleon were canceled.

The Napoleon meet was rescheduled for Saturday, April 5, but was only a scrimmage.

In a Thursday home meet with Swanton, the AHS girls team won 87-49. The AHS boys won 98-38.

Boys

A number of Streaks picked up first places.

Garrett Waidelich was a quadruple winner, winning the 100-meter dash in 11.6 seconds and the 200 in 23.7. He was also on the winning 4×100 and the 4×200-meter relay teams with Nate Hammersmith, Breon Price, and Noah Keefer.

Brian Grime was a double winner, placing first in the 1600 in five minutes, 13 seconds and the 3200 in 11:40. He was also on the winning 4×800 team with Justin Storrer, Josh Smith, and Michael Volkman.

Volkman also won the 800 in 2:11.

Girls

Archbold swept two events, the 100 and 800. In the 100, Autumn Lantz, Melinda Sauder, and Ashlie Horst finished firstsecond third. Lantz won in 13 seconds.

Katrina Gobrogge, Trisha King, and Laura Bowman swept the 800 as Gobrogge won in 2:40.

Lantz also captured the 200 in 26.5 and the 400 in 1:04.

King placed first in the 1600 in 6:11.5 and was a member of the winning 4×800 team with Bowman, Nicki Rupp, and Rahel Frei.

Pole vault: 1. Deena Cowell, 6-6; 2. Horst, 6-2.

Shot put: 1. Tori Burkholder, 23-8 1/2; 2. Belana Antar, 21-9.

Discus: 1. Brooke Dohm, 65-0.

Long jump: 1. Bezeau (S), 15-3; 2. Cowell, 14-8; 3. Kat Moody, 13-8 1/4.

High jump: 1. Seeman (S), 5-0; 2. Emily Snyder, 4-10; 3. Bowman, 4-8.

4×800: 1. Archbold (Bowman, Rupp, Frei, King), 11:33.

110 hurdles: 1. Smith (S), 16.5; 2. Haley Nemcik, 17.9.

100: 1. Lantz, 13.0; 2. Sauder, 14.4; 3. Horst, 14.5.
