Chandler Stevens, AHS ‘11 and a student at the University of Northwestern Ohio, Lima, won the North Pointe Survivors Gold Bowling Tournament, July 17-19, in Detroit, Mich.
Stevens was one of 1,024 bowlers entered in the North Pointe Junior Gold Tournament. He made the first cut, finishing in 104th place. He failed to make a second cut.
That moved him to the Survivors Gold tournament, a six-game scratch tournament, where he rolled six games with scores ranging from 243 to 278. He had two three-game series scores of 769 and 794, for an average of 260.
The tournament pays out scholarship money.
Stevens has participated in several other events.
•He finished fourth in a Pro-Am tournament in Wapakoneta in April.
•He won a tournament in Napoleon in May, rolling an 826 over a three-game series.
•He was second in a tournament in Toledo that same month, rolling an 804 series.
•During a state tournament on June 16, Stevens rolled a 300 game, a perfect score.
•Stevens won a state doubles championship. He was randomly paired with a bowler from Upper Sandusky for that event.
