Steven Paul Liechty, age 61, of rural Archbold, passed away Aug. 23, 2012, at home after a long illness.
He was born May 3, 1951, in Wauseon, to Irene M. (Snyder) and the late Paul E. Liechty.
Steve attended Archbold Schools and graduated from there in 1969.
On Feb. 12, 1972, he was wedded to Nona Britsch, and she survives.
A lifelong Archbold area resident, Steve was part owner of H&S Body Shop for a number of years, and also was a third generation towing business owner, operating Paul’s Service in Archbold until 1988.
After that, he worked for Unimin Corporation, and most recently was employed as a bus mechanic and head groundskeeper for Archbold Area Schools.
Steve was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Archbold, as well as an active member of The Sons of The American Legion.
He was also a longtime veteran of the Archbold/German Township Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Nona, and three children, Scott (Laurie) Liechty of Hudson, Shawn of rural Archbold, Shannon of Chicago, Ill., and two grandchildren, Meredith and Mitchell.
Other survivors include his mother, Irene M. Liechty, and three brothers, James (Renee), Douglas (Judy), and Robert (Sharon) Liechty, and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Sholl, all of rural Archbold. He also had 10 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul “Boze” Liechty. Others include his mother and father-in-law, Melvin and Dorothy Britsch, brothers-in-law Marlin Britsch and Victor Sholl.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 26, at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, 203 S. Defiance St., Archbold, with the Rev. Paul Reichert officiating. Interment at Pettisville Cemetery followed.
Short Funeral Home in Archbold handled the arrangements.
