John Horning, Pettisville head volleyball coach, welcomes back six letterwinners from a squad that finished 16-8, 7-3 in the Buckeye Border Conference last season.

“We return experienced players with a hard-working mentality, strong serving and net play,” said Horning, who is in his third season at the helm of the Birds.

“My girls are players who strive to get better each and every day. We do, however, have players stepping into new positions at the varsity level.”

Returning are Tessa Yoder, Kylee Garcia, Stephanie Yoder, Stacey King, seniors; Laura Rupp, a junior; and Katie Yoder, a sophomore.

Assisting Horning with coaching duties are Rebecca Dorosz, junior varsity, and Tim Myers, freshmen.

“We should be a contender for the BBC title and be competitive in all our matches this season,” said Horning. “We hope to be playing our best ball when tournament starts.”

The Birds host their season opener, Saturday, Aug. 28, in a tri-match with Patrick Henry and Columbus Grove.
