Kylie Rufenacht, Archbold head volleyball coach, welcomed back six letterwinners from a squad that finished 23-3, 8-0 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League last year.
The Streaks lost to Coldwater in the Division III regional semifinal.
Rufenacht is in her second year as sole head coach. Prior to that, she was co-head coach for two years with Dale Grime.
In spite of losing five players with a lot of varsity experience to graduation, the team has “good overall team chemistry and a good group of returning players that are eager to learn and work hard,” said Rufenacht.
Returning are seniors Becca Gerig, a three-year letterwinner who was the NWOAL and District 7 Player of the Year; Desi Newman, a twoyear letterwinner; and Paige Peterson, a one-year letterwinner.
Juniors back are Erin Erbskorn, Cassidy Williams and Cayla Walker, all one-year letterwinners.
“We look to be competitive in our league games and non-league matches,” said Rufenacht.
As far as the NWOAL goes, “there are some up and coming teams with several new head coaches. I am expecting the league to be very competitive. No team should be overlooked.”
Rufenacht looks for senior Kayla Leaser and juniors Natalie Rupp, Peyton Driver, Kennedy Wyse, Megan Miller and Winter Fricke to contribute.
Archbold hosts Patrick Henry, Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the season opener.
