Short, Thatcher Battle For County Commissioner Seat


 

 

Joe Short, a Republican from German Township, rural Archbold, and Becky Thatcher, an Independent from Franklin Township, rural Archbold, are facing off in the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election for Fulton County commissioner.

The two are vying for the seat of Bill Rufenacht, Archbold, who is not seeking reelection.

Short ran unopposed in the primary.

An Archbold native, Short has previous experience in the post. He was elected a German Township Trustee in 2003, and held that post until 2006, when he was elected a county commi ssioner. He did not seek reelection in 2010.

He was elected a trustee again in 2017.

A 1984 Archbold High School graduate, Short graduated from The Ohio State University in 1988 with a marketing communications degree.

He has run his own insurance agency for 28 years.

He is a past president of the board of the Fulton County commissioners, a past president of the Fulton County Township Association, past president of the Archbold Area Chamber of Commerce, and past president of the Archbold Lions Club.

Short is a member and former deacon of St. John’s Christian Church, Archbold.

“I will work together with county and community officials and continue to search for grant money for the benefit of Fulton County residents,” he said.

Thatcher

Thatcher lists her hometown as Archbold- Franklin Township “after spending 40 years in Wauseon.”

She graduated from Archbold High School in 1972. She graduated cum laude in 1998 from Northwest State Community College with an Associate of Business Management degree and was named a distinguished alumnus in 2003.

In 2000, she graduated cum laude from the University of Findlay with a bachelor’s degree in business. She graduated cum laude with a Master of Business Administration Master of Public Administration degree in 2002.

She is a retired auditor for the state of Ohio, Ohio Department of Job & Family Services.

She was a charter member of the Fulton County Workforce Development Board in 1998, serving until 2006.

She was elected by members across the state to serve as a trustee for the Ohio Eastern Star Home. She was also a member of the Fayette Fine Arts Board, also known as the “Fayette Opera House Board.”

She was a volunteer bus driver and escort at the Fulton County Senior Center.

She previously attended Oasis Christian Church, Wauseon.

Her goal, if elected, “is to serve all of the residents of Fulton County as a full-time commissioner. I promise to listen to constituents,” she said.
