In addition to approving a new contract with district teachers and a new operations manual for classified staff, the Archbold Area School Board conducted other business at its special meeting, Monday, June 24.
Josh Voll was named the district technology assistant.
The school board approved two contracts for Voll: one for the summer, effective July 1 through Aug. 1, and a second for the 2013-14 school year, for 186 days.
Aaron Rex, superintendent, said Voll has a teaching background, “so he knows how to bring the teaching aspect” to the position.
The board also approved Molly Graf as the interim transportation coordinator.
The school board voted to adopt interim end-of-course examinations for the American history, American government standards, and historic documents courses.
Rex said the examinations are a requirement of the state.
The district will be required to develop the endof year exam for the 2013-14 school year.
For 2014-15, Rex said state officials will provide the test.
“The state says we have to do it,” Rex told the board.
One requirement of the Ohio Department of Education former grade card system was a “value-added” measure, which measured how much educational growth a child experienced in a year.
Rex said at the high school level, it is much harder to measure one year of growth.
By administering a test at the beginning of the school year and again at the end of the year, the district can show the amount of growth students have achieved, Rex said.
Meeting Date Changed
During the special session, the board voted to change its July meeting date to Wednesday, July 17, 4 pm, in the Archbold High School media center.
