Jon Lugbill, Archbold Area School Board president, said the board is “whittling down” the list of 20 candidates for the post of permanent Archbold Area School District superintendent.
“We are trying to be prudent and thorough,” he said.
The board is searching for a replacement for David Deskins, who resigned the post in July to take a job at the Penta Career Center, Perrysburg.
Joe Long, a retired superintendent, was hired by the board to serve on an interim basis.
Interviews of candidates have gone well.
“We have a very nice pool of candidates,” Lugbill said.
The board held its last regular meeting of the year Monday, Dec. 17, but he said a special meeting before the end of the year “is a definite possibility.”
The board is still working to have a superintendent hired by the end of the year.
“We are working diligently,” Lugbill said.
During the meeting, the board met in executive session for about two hours and 20 minutes.
Stated reason for the closed-door session was to discuss the employment, compensation, promotion or demotion of public employees.
When the board returned to regular session, they took no personnel action.
The time of the 2013 organizational board meeting was changed to 5:30 pm, Monday, Jan. 7, in the high school media center.
