Scam Thwarted

A woman avoided being scammed, thanks to help from Archbold police.

Susie Stamm, 67, Archbold, told police on Monday, Oct. 17, she was attempting to purchase a dog through Facebook.

The seller had Stamm purchase two $100 iTunes music gift cards. The seller then wanted Stamm to remove strips on the back of the cards, take a picture of the numbers that were revealed, and send the photos to them.

When she told police, she was advised it was a scam. Since she had not removed the strips, she should be able to return them.

The officer attempted to contact the seller, but was unable to do so. In his report, the officer stated he advised Facebook officials the account was fraudulent. The case is closed, pending new information.
