Nanette Buehrer, executive director of the Archbold Area Chamber of Commerce, said Monday the last few details are being worked out for Saturday’s Chili Cookoff.
There are 10 different chili recipes in competition, but Buehrer said there could be more. One entry arrived in Monday’s mail.
There also are "a nice variety of food booths" in addition to the chili, she said.
Buehrer said she has spoken with shop owners up and down North Defiance Street. Some report there will be special sales and at least one open house during the Cookoff.
Two restaurants, Stella Blue and Carol Ann’s City Café, are set to offer food items during the operation of the Sidestreet Café, the 21-and-over area on West Holland Street, where beer will be served.
The weather outlook for Saturday is nice and sunny, she said, with temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s- perfect for a fall event.
North Defiance Street will be closed to traffic from Williams Street to Stryker Street.
The Cookoff opens at 11 am with the children’s decorated bicycle parade.
"I’m looking forward to the kids parade. That will be a lot of fun," Buehrer said.
There will be live music, in addition to the chili and other food. Other children’s activities include giant inflatable toys and the Black Swamp Arts Council area where kids can work on art projects.
"Artie Short will be the master of ceremonies. I’m sure he’ll bring a lot of fun to the event, too," She said.
Buehrer said some volunteer help is still needed early Saturday morning.
"We’re looking for volunteers to help set up booths. We can always use an extra set of hands," she said.
She asked that volunteers call the chamber to let them know they can help.
Buehrer said she is looking forward to the event.
