Sanford O. “Mike” Nofziger

Sanford O. “Mike” Nofziger, 93, of Elmira, passed away in the home of his family, Nov. 8, 2008.

He was born in Elmira on Jan. 13, 1915, the son of Harvey and Ella (Bernath) Nofziger.

On July 4, 1938, he married Bernice Eva Spengler. A man of many jobs, he was a farmer, livestock truck driver, owner of Elmira Cement factory, agriculture inspector, and a county auditor. He was a member of Tedrow United Methodist Church.

He loved to travel, tell jokes, and play cards.

He was not a perfect man; none of us are. But he was a loving father and a good provider.

Surviving are two daughters, Melinda Rodriguez and Martha Hackett Parke, and one son, Michael; four grandchildren, Richard and Robert Rodriguez, and Oscar and Eve Hackett; six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Joel, Riley, Evan, Rebecca, and Julia Rodriguez.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; sons, David and Richard; siblings, Mary Beaverson, Edith Leu, Clara, Fannie, Robert, Arthur, and Agnes Nofziger.

Memorial services will be held today, Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m. at the Tedrow United Methodist Church with Rev. David David offi ciating. Interment will precede at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Tedrow Cemetery.
