Parking Brake Not Set On Runaway Bus
The Archbold Police Department accident report on the runaway school bus incident said the driver did not set the parking brake before leaving the bus unattended.
The driverless bus rolled south in the alley east of the Archbold Middle School, crossed Stryker Street, then struck a utility pole on the south side of the street about 2:31 pm, Thursday, Aug. 30.
Police have identified the bus driver as Albert Babcock.
The bus, identified as Number 2, is a 2004 model transit-style bus. A transit bus can carry as many as 84 passengers. The driver sits in front of the front axle.
Damage was limited to the outside rearview mirrors on the passenger side and the folding door.-Updated 8.31, 10 am
An Archbold Area School District bus, which had apparently been left unattended, collided with a utility pole at the intersection of Stryker Street and the alley west of Ditto Street just before 3 pm Thursday, Aug. 30.
Archbold Police are still conducting their investigation.
There were no injuries, and damage to bus appeared to be minor. Damage was limited to the passenger-side mirrors and the door.
