Ridgeville Fire Dep’t. Open House Sunday

Ridgeville Fire Department will lower its flag to half-staff and sound the fire siren at noon on Sunday, Oct. 3, to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

It’s part of a national campaign to honor the 9-11 victims, and one of the events planned for the department’s Open House, which will be held at the station from 2 to 4 pm., said Dexter Benecke, RFD chief.

Activities include a visit by the Life Flight helicopter ambulance, and “Pluggie,” the robotic fire hydrant, which wanders around and talks to children about fire safety.

Also at the event will be the Fire Safety House, a trailer set up to simulate a home. Children can learn what to expect in case of a fire, and how to escape if a fire starts.

RFD will offer rides in one of the fire trucks.

“Lots of people enjoyed it when we did it four years ago– even the adults,” Benecke said.
