Ridgeville Corners Restarts Community Day Celebration

After a few years without a community-wide event, Ridgeville Corners will hold its Community Day, Sunday, July 20.

Cheryl Bostelman, one of the organizers, said she could not remember how long it had been since there had been a Community Day in Ridgeville. The last she could remember was 2000.

“It was time to start it up again, and raise some money,” she said.

Community Day money, along with some grant funds, has replaced sidewalks in Ridgeville, purchased new trees, and paid for a community bulletin board.

This year, Bostelman said the goal is to replace the bulletin board with a lighted sign.

“It will be more viewable to people as they drive by,” she said.

She said it’s been 10 years since Christmas decorations have been purchased.

The Ridge Road, formally known as Henry County Rd. X, will be closed from St. Rt. 6 to Ridgeville’s First Street. Tables and chairs will be set up, and a meal will be served starting at 11:30 am.

During the afternoon, there will be giant inflatable play structures for kids, plus raffles, bingo, a corn hole tournament, and chicken races.

Bostelman said in the past, Community Day has raised as much as $4,000 to $6,000.

This year, expectations are not that high, but Bostelman said organizers hope the event gets bigger and better.

There isn’t an actual committee or organization that puts together Community Day, just a group of people that organize the event, she said.

“A lot of people pitch in to help out,” she said.
