The Pettisville School Board approved the hiring of Julia Richer as the new Spanish teacher at its Monday, May 9 meeting.
Richer replaces Rich Reid, who is retiring after serving at Pettisville for 21 years.
Richer is a graduate of Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Va. She taught Spanish at Edon and the Will Carleton Academy in Hillsdale, Mich.
Currently she is a parttime lecturer at Hillsdale (Mich.) College and a tutor at Hilltop Schools.
Steve Switzer, superintendent, said Reid assisted with the interview of Richer since the interview included both speaking and writing in Spanish.
The board also hired Brian Leppelmeier as the new PHS head boys basketball coach.
Leppelmeier is the district athletic director. He fills the position created after Greg Nofziger resigned.
Kyle Knoll was hired as the new junior high soccer coach. Knoll replaces Stan Roth, who served in that position for 15 years.
The board also approved adding junior high golf to the list of sports at Pettisville. Golf has been an ongoing sport at PHS.
