Richard F. Hasselschwert

Richard F. Hasselschwert, age 86, of Wauseon, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at the Defiance Area Inpatient Care Center.

Prior to his retirement he had been the manager and buyer for the Charles Co. in Wauseon and Napoleon for 45 years.

Mr. Hasselschwert was born on June 8, 1926, in Defi- ance, the son of the late Edward and the late Margaret (Flanigan) Hasselschwert.

On Aug. 7, 1948, he married the former Jean Myers, and she survives.

He was a member of the St. Caspar Catholic Church, Wauseon, where he served on the Parish Council and the Finance Committee. He was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a charter member of the Wauseon Lions Club, where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow for Dedicated Humanitarian Services.

Mr. Hasselschwert was a member of the Wauseon City Council from 1992-1999, and a member of the INTV Board for 18 years.

He served on the Civil Service Board for many years. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII.

Surviving besides his wife, Jean, are six daughters; Beth (Joe) Vanderson, Dublin, Ohio, Brenda (Steve) Case, Archbold, Jane (Ray) Kuthy, Iowa City, Iowa, Jan (Stephen) Schroeder, Archbold, Judy (Jerry) Turney, Mason, and Jennifer (Paul) Ruess, Powell. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were brothers Joseph, Charles, and Bernard, and sisters Ann, Jeanette, Rose, and Martha.

A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at the St. Caspar Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. David Bruning and Rev. Fr. Robert Holden officiating. Interment followed in the St. Caspar Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made either to St. Caspar Catholic Church or the Defiance Area Inpatient Care Center.
